Pitti Palace
|
Palazzo Pitti is located in the quarter of Oltrarno.
At the time it was built, it was the biggest and the most magnificent residence in Florence.
In the second half of the 1400's, Luca Pitti was avails against of the Medici's family and wished a residence, as magnificent as the one of Cosimo the Old.
After several restorations, the building has reached the current arrangement with 5 museums articulated in various thematic; in fact inside there are different museums of various nature: an art gallery (the Galleria Palatina, with masterpieces of Raffaello, Tiziano, etc) arranged according to the criterion of the picture gallery, the monumental apartments, the Gallery of modern art (with the works of the Macchiaioli - Florentine impressionist painters) and other museums: the Museum of silver, the Gallery of customs, dedicated to fashion, the Museum of the chinas and the Museum of carriages. The monumental gardens of Boboli are one of the best examples of Italian Garden in the world.
